Deakin experts available for Victorian election analysis and commentary

Deakin University researchers are available for expert analysis and commentary on a range of potential topics relating to the 2018 Victorian Election.
POLITICAL ANALYSIS
Dr Geoffrey Robinson – Deakin School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Dr Robinson is senior lecturer in politics and Australian studies and an experienced media commentator. His areas of expertise cover politics and social policy.

LAW AND ORDER
Dr Emma Ryan – Deakin School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Dr Ryan researches policing and criminal justice and has recently commented on the need for better policies rather than building more jails to turn around crime rates and prison overcrowding.

EDUCATION
Professor Julianne Moss – Director of Deakin's Strategic Research Centre in Education, Research for Educational Impact
Professor Moss is the Director of Deakin's Strategic Research Centre in Education, Research for Educational Impact (REDI), located within the School of Education. Over her 40-year career in education she has focused on equity and social justice, as well as teacher education and education policy.

HEALTH
Professor Anna Peeters – Director of Deakin's Institute for Health Transformation Professor Peeters is Professor of Epidemiology and Director of Deakin's Institute for Health Transformation. In 2017, Professor Peeters spearheaded the release of the Tipping the Scales Report, calling for action to address Australia's obesity epidemic.

ENERGY
Professor Samantha Hepburn – Deakin Law School
Professor Hepburn is a Professor of Property Law, and an expert in energy law and natural resource management. She has a strong research interest in unconventional gas regulation in Australia and is also examining the regulatory development of carbon capture sequestration both in Australia and internationally.

HOUSING AND REGIONAL RESTRUCTURING
Professor Louise Johnson – Deakin School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Professor Johnson is a Professor of Australian Studies, with research interests in building better suburbs and Australian regional restructuring and its human impacts and responses.
Relevant subject areas: Housing, suburban planning, regional development (particularly in Geelong).
INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT
Dr Hermione Parsons – Director of Deakin's Centre for Supply Chain and Logistics Dr Parsons is an Industry Professor at Deakin's Centre for Supply Chain and Logistics. She has more than 20 years executive management experience in public and private sector organisations with responsibility for logistics, multimodal infrastructure, competition, regulation, supply chain reengineering, perishable food supply chains and industry-government relations.
Relevant subject areas: Freight infrastructure developments (ports, roads, rail), urban logistics, agrifood, food exports.
SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENT
Dr Trevor Thornton – Deakin School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Dr Thornton is a lecturer in hazardous materials management and an expert in recycling and waste management at Deakin's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. He previously worked at Victoria's Environment Protection Authority and has consulted widely in waste management within Australia and overseas, with recent projects based on identifying recycling contamination and educating for waste management.
