Deakin Residential Services has been awarded a Gold Accreditation for its student accommodation across all campuses - strengthening Deakin's position as a leading provider of student residential accommodation.

The newly established Residential Experience Standard accreditation was awarded by the Asia Pacific Student Accommodation Association (APSAA) and outlines the new benchmark for student accommodation in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new standards accreditation measures student accommodation experiences around facilities, support services and overall student experience – including how we nurture student mental and social wellbeing and personal safety.

Deakin Residential Services Chief Executive Officer, Marion Grey, said that Deakin's student residential community is key to the vibrancy of all Deakin campuses, with the standard providing important feedback to ensure Deakin Res students remain amongst the happiest.

'Deakin's residential community is a vital part of maintaining our on-campus diversity and is the perfect springboard as students look for more independence. The peer support and friendships that develop at Deakin's residential community go on to positively impact our students well beyond their student days,' Ms Grey said.

'This accreditation process has provided us with invaluable insights and data, ensuring we continue to deliver services where the wellbeing and satisfaction of our students is our true north.'

Forensic science student You Sheng Ooi calls Deakin Res at the Geelong campus home, after recently graduating from high school in Malaysia.

'The supportive environment and access to resources like academic assistance and fully equipped kitchens also made it a practical choice for balancing study and personal life,' he said.

'There is always a group of friendly Residential leaders that are willing to identify and refer issues to 24/7 professional support when we meet any difficulties. Deakin University also offers a lot of useful resources like the Deakin Wellbeing team, Deakin Security team and Deakin Financial team.'

While home is closer for marine science student Felicity Anderson, freeing up hours of time commuting from Melbourne means she’s able to focus more on her studies.

'The best part is the social life. Movie nights, college dinners and everything in between. Geelong Res offers so many events, so there is always a way to meet new people and build meaningful relationships,' Felicity said.

Deakin Residential Services joins University of Newcastle, Mannix College and Student One as Gold Accreditation holders.
