The Marngrook Footy Show broadcasts from Deakin University
Media releaseIn a first for Deakin University, the popular Marngrook Footy Show will be broadcast live via satellite feed to Darwin, Alice Springs, the Tiwi Islands and other areas throughout Australia including all capital cities via Fox and Foxtel from Deakin's TV Studio, each Thursday evening over the next 29 weeks of the Australian Rules Football season. The broadcast from Deakin has resulted from a commercial contract with Toombak Indigenous Productions Pty Ltd to produce and broadcast 26 episodes of The Marngrook Footy Show.
Deakin TV Studio Coordinator, Mr Luke Raisbeck, said: "This initiative of Deakin's School of Communication and Creative Arts is a terrific outcome all-round. The Marngrook Footy Show is one of the most popular shows for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander footballers and their supporters around Australia and Deakin is proud to be able to facilitate the production of the show at our TV Studio. As well, it gives Deakin students an opportunity to be involved in the production and broadcast of some episodes of the program."
Deakin University actively engages with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly through its well-regarded Institute of Koorie Education (IKE) located at Deakin's Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds.
