Introducing Professor Iain Martin
Professor Iain Martin has been Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University since July 2019. Prior to taking up his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, Professor Martin was Vice-Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University.
Professor Martin was born in south Wales and spent his childhood in Hampshire. He studied medicine at the University of Leeds and trained and worked as a surgeon in Leeds before moving to New Zealand in 2000. He spent 12 years at the University of Auckland holding a number of positions including Head of Surgery, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Strategic Engagement.
His move from a clinical academic career to wider university leadership roles was driven by his passionate belief in the importance of universities and the transformational power of higher education for individuals and communities.
We have a long-held commitment to lifelong learning and to being flexible and accessible – providing students with real choices about how, when and where learning occurs.
