Getting there
Regional train
Train
From Melbourne CBD it takes about an hour to get to Deakin’s Burwood Campus using combinations of train, tram and bus.
Plan your journey on the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) website
Tram
The most direct journey is by tram. Take the 75 tram to Stop 63 (Deakin University/Burwood Highway).

Myki
To use trams, trains and buses around Melbourne you’ll need to buy a Myki card.
Myki cards are very easy to use, just top up credit or buy a pass at a shop or station, then touch-on once you’ve boarded the tram or bus – or touch-on and off to get through the barriers at train stations.
Cycle
The most direct cycle route to the Burwood Campus from Melbourne CBD is around 15km and takes about an hour (there are a couple of quite steep hills to contend with).
There are plenty of bike trails around the campus so commuting on your bike is definitely an option.
On campus you’ll find plenty of showers, change rooms, bike racks, lockers and a secure bicycle cage.
Car
The Burwood Campus is a 25-minute drive from Melbourne CBD, depending on traffic.
- From Melbourne CBD join the Monash Freeway (M1)
- Take the Burke Road exit
- Turn right at Toorak Road and follow it for about 10 minutes
- Toorak Road becomes Burwood Highway and you’ll see Deakin University on the left
Car pooling
If you bring someone else with you in your car, you can use the car pooling car park.
We actually provide a free carpool-matching service to students and staff to help you find someone to carpool with.
Parking
Paid parking is available on campus at a number of different car parks. You can pay for short-term parking using the CellOPark app, and students and staff can register for long-term parking via vPermit.
