If your application to study at Deakin is successful you will be sent comprehensive information and instructions on how to enrol in your course and who to contact for help.
If it is not the right time for you to commence your studies, or you need to take a break from your studies, Deakin University will normally allow you to defer the commencement of your course for up to 24 months, for most courses. This means you can postpone your studies, but still retain your place at the University.
Deferrals cannot be processed once you have accepted your offer and enrolled in units. If you have enrolled and now wish to defer your place, you should contact your Faculty Enrolment Officer to discuss your options.
2009 VTAC applicants who wish to return to study from mid-year (Trimester 2) in 2010, will have to ensure that their offered course will allow for this. To check if your course permits mid-year entry in 2010, please click here.
Legislation to introduce the Government's proposed changes to Youth Allowance has not been approved by the Parliament. This means current rules for Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY continue to apply. The Government has indicated that it intends to bring its legislation back to the Parliament early in 2010.
Students who may be considering taking a gap year before going to university should be aware that the current arrangements would change if the Government's legislation is approved. Information on the progress of the proposed changes is available at: www.deewr.gov.au/YouthAllowance

If you were made an offer through VTAC , you should complete the deferral process outlined in your Enrolling at Deakin booklet (6 MB).
If you were made an offer directly from the University, please complete the Deakin Deferral Form (70 KB), and return it within 5 days of receiving your offer.
Complete the Deakin Deferral Form (70 KB) to defer your offer and return it within 5 days of receiving your offer. You should not accept or enrol in the course online if you wish to defer.
International students who wish to defer the commencement of their course prior to enrolment, should contact the staff member listed on their Letter of Offer.
