Professor Shaw is the author, co-author, editor, or co-editor of more than 150 academic publications, including many articles published in international and Australian refereed journals, such as Services Marketing Quarterly, the Australasian Journal of Market Research, the International Journal of Retailing, Industrial Marketing Management, the International Journal of Management, the Australian Marketing Researcher, the Journal of Australian Marketing, Advertising, Communication, the Asia-Pacific Journal of Management, the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, the Journal of Travel Research, the International Journal of Hospitality Management, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, the Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, the Journal of Tourism Studies, Festival Management & Event Tourism, Current Issues in Tourism, the Journal of Vacation Marketing, the International Journal of Arts Management, Library Management, and Tourism Management, and refereed conference proceedings, including the proceedings of the American Marketing Association and the Academy of Marketing Science.

He is a co-author, with Professor Philip Kotler, of two textbooks, viz., Australian Marketing Management, and Marketing in Australia. He chaired the organising committee and co-edited the proceedings of the 2002 Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy National Research Conference, held in Melbourne, as he did for the 1995 Research Conference of the Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education, also held in Melbourne. He is a member of editorial boards, including those of the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, the Journal of International Marketing and Exporting, and the International Journal of Business Studies.
