Orr, S.C., Menzies, J., Chung, M. Interview-based research with 50 Australian companies who had successfully and unsuccessfully internationalised into China to identify the impact of differences between the Australian and Chinese business environments which affected their approaches to entry into China. Funded by a Deakin University Faculty Research Grant. This research has resulted in an industry report, several conference papers and will shortly produce to journal articles.
Orr, S.C. research aimed at modelling the impact on strategic choices available to Australian manufacturers who have internationalised part of their operations.
Orr, S.C., Oppenheim, P. Research project based on 10 sets of interviews with Australian floral industry companies exploring the relationship between organisational resources and performance in a global industry.
Orr, S. C. Research project evaluating strategic benefits of Supply Chain Management in the European Automotive Industry, though interviews with major European Automotive manufacturers. The paper resulting from this research was presented at the 2005 European Operations Management Conference in Budapest.
Orr, S. C. and Heffernan, S. Research project evaluating the relationship between information management practices and logistic effectiveness along a rail corridor servicing the Port of Melbourne. This project used primary and secondary data from corridor participants (manufacturers/producers, transporters and end customers) to map information flow practices onto the logistical performance of that corridor. A number of weaknesses in the information management process along that corridor that led to the logistical performance problems were identified. A strategic approach to the information management along that corridor that would eliminate or minimise these weaknesses was recommended.
| 2001/2 | Orr, S. C. Research project evaluating the impact of the 'new economy' (and its collapse) upon the strategic planning process and structures of large Australian organisations. This research utilised a survey that was sent to the 2000 largest Australian organisations and which was developed from the literature and peer review. The paper resulting from this research was presented at the 2002 European Operations Management Conference in Copenhagen. |
Orr, S.C. Research project investigating quality control issues in the delivery of postgraduate coursework education in the distance mode. This research draws upon the literature dating back to the inception of modern distance education and a survey conducted at Deakin University evaluating the implementation of online delivery of a postgraduate unit.
