Adventure Day Trip

18 December 2006

In order to welcome the summer semester students to Deakin, the DBS Society hosted its first off campus social event. It was a beautiful day as the bus load of Deakin students arrived at Dandenong National Park. The Adventure Day trip consisted of a beautiful nature hike, a BBQ, a very interesting soccer game and a food fight. Many students helped with the preparation, cooking and cleaning. It was the perfect day for the perfect event and thanks to everyone that contributed.

The DBS Society, students and faculty joined together to celebrate the opening of the DBS Society Common Room. The room which was opened for all graduate students was made possible by the generosity of Deakin Business School and especially Professor Tanya Castleman. Career Forum

13 October 2006

The DBS Society’s first Career Forum was a big hit, as students piled into the Stonington Mansion to listen to our four distinguished guest speakers. Our guest speakers covered areas including Organisational Development, Finance, Management and Marketing, and also include an immigration agent. The guest speakers covered many topics related to working in a business environment and gave key examples from their personal experience. Following a very insightful Q&A session, cocktails with our guests seemed the perfect end to an already perfect evening.

Saul Eslake Lecture

4 August 2006

Over 85 students and faculty were present when Saul Eslake, the chief economist at ANZ, came to speak at Deakin. Mr. Eslake’s presentation on the global economy and Australia’s place within it was absolutely amazing. With a mixture of brilliant economic insight and extremely witty humour, Mr. Eslake completely bewildered his audience.

Lord Mayor Visit

26 May 2006

The DBS Society was invited by the Mayor to City Hall for a talk and a short Q&A session. The students representing the DBS, asked questions regarding issues that all graduate students have faced while studying in Australia. The DBS had the largest representation and we are sure that the mayor took note of the issues we raised.
