With career highlights such as managing the GDP of a thriving island nation and interviewing Sachin Tendulkar, Srini Vasan (1997) has certainly enjoyed a varied career.
'After a brief period working for one of the largest companies in Southern India, I took up a position as financial controller for the Nauru Phosphate Mining Company, this role effectively meant managing the country’s GDP. However my responsibility did not extend to the government’s poor investment advice.
I moved to Australia in 1990 and commenced work with Trade Indemnity, now known as QBE Australia Ltd, the 15 th largest company in Australia in terms of capitalisation with a turnover of $10 billion. I enjoy working for an Australian icon.
During this time I studied my MBA at Deakin. I believe you should have 10 years relevant experience before you attempt your MBA, I thought it was terrific.
Since completing my MBA my role has changed significantly, covering global operations. Most significantly I find it has enhanced my presentation skills along with my lateral problem solving ability. The MBA is also an invaluable asset in my role as CPA mentor. I am involved with QBE’s expansion into India, my qualifications and background have also provided me with the important ability to facilitate cross cultural relations. I am also the Vice-President of the Australia India Business Forum, a body that promotes business relationship between the two countries.
Journalism is another interest, I am an accredited with Cricket Australia, and I am the Sports editor for ‘Indian Voice’, an Indian newspaper based in Melbourne. One of my journalistic highlights was interviewing Sachin Tendulkar.'
