What's on

Glass, ochre, iron and mud: Anindita Banerjee, Deanne Gilson, Aaron Hoffman and Todd Johnson

14 April – 6 June 2025

This exhibition marks the tenth collaborative showcase between the Deakin University Art Gallery and the School of Communication and Creative Arts. The project features the interdisciplinary and experiential artistic practices of recent alumni from the Higher Degree by Research program. Four distinguished artists, Anindita Banerjee, Deanne Gilson, Aaron Hoffman and Todd Johnson, have been invited to present current projects, reflecting the diverse perspectives emerging from Deakin's creative research community. While their approaches and inquiries have developed independently over the last four years, the exhibition reveals the artists’ shared exploration of the complexities of contemporary identity, material knowledge and understanding of place. Curated by James Lynch.

50 Years of Collecting

12 February to 4 April 2025

This survey of the University’s Art Collection has been compiled in celebration of Deakin University’s 50 year anniversary. The exhibition takes audiences on a journey through our 50 years of collecting. Pieces are displayed marking significant milestones alongside new acquisitions, allowing visitors to explore not only the collection's origins, but also its ongoing development and reflect on the shifting trends in contemporary Australian art. Whilst on display, Deakin University students, alumni and staff will be invited to contribute an expression of interest in developing a new work for display later in the year. Launching in conjunction with this exhibition will be an updated publication about the collection as well as a publicly accessible searchable art collection database.

Opportunity to showcase your artwork

While the exhibition is on display, current Deakin staff, students and alumni are invited to submit an expression of interest (EOI) to create a work of art for inclusion in our final exhibition for the year Face to Face Revisited in October.

EOIs close on Friday 11 April and can be submitted by completing the EOI form. Terms and Conditions apply.
